Company Culture

How We Work at Uway

Our culture is the foundation of everything we do. We've intentionally built an environment that attracts talented people who are passionate about AI, compliance, and making an impact.

🎯 Our Operating Principles

1. Compliance is in Our DNA

We don't just build compliance tools — we live compliance:

  • Accuracy over speed — We'd rather be right than fast
  • Document everything — If it's not written down, it didn't happen
  • Assume audit — Operate as if regulators are watching (because they might be)
  • Continuous learning — Regulations change; we change with them

2. AI-First, Human-Centered

Technology serves people, not the other way around:

  • Augment, don't replace — AI enhances human expertise, doesn't eliminate it
  • Explainable AI — We can justify every recommendation our agents make
  • Human in the loop — Critical decisions always have human oversight
  • Ethical by design — Built-in safeguards against bias and misuse

3. Customer Obsession

We succeed when our clients succeed:

  • Deep empathy — Understand their pain points, not just their requirements
  • Proactive communication — Don't wait for problems to be reported
  • Long-term partnerships — We're invested in their success over years, not quarters
  • Feedback loops — Regular check-ins, surveys, and product improvement cycles

4. Radical Transparency

Honesty builds trust:

  • Open pricing — No hidden fees, no surprises
  • Clear capabilities — We'll tell you what AI can't do, not just what it can
  • Admit mistakes — Own errors quickly and fix them
  • Share context — Team members understand the "why" behind decisions

5. Bias for Action

Move fast, but don't break things (especially compliance):

  • Iterate quickly — Ship, learn, improve
  • Default to yes — Find ways to make things work
  • Ownership mindset — If you see a problem, own the solution
  • Calculated risks — Thoughtful experimentation within compliance boundaries

🏡 Work Environment

Distributed & Flexible

Where we work:

  • Team members across Hong Kong, Singapore, mainland China
  • Home offices, co-working spaces, coffee shops
  • Quarterly in-person meetups for team bonding and strategic planning

When we work:

  • Flexible hours (core overlap: 10am - 4pm HKT)
  • Async-first communication (written docs > meetings)
  • Results-oriented (output matters more than hours logged)
  • Respect for personal time (no late-night Slack messages)

Communication Norms

Written > Verbal:

  • Documentation is our first-class citizen
  • Meeting notes shared within 24 hours
  • Decisions recorded with context and rationale
  • Asynchronous updates (not everyone needs to be in every meeting)

Meeting Hygiene:

  • Clear agenda sent in advance
  • Time-boxed (30 min default, 60 min max)
  • Decision-maker must attend
  • Action items assigned before leaving

Tools We Use:

  • 📝 Documentation: Notion, Docusaurus
  • 💬 Chat: Slack (with clear channel purposes)
  • 📅 Scheduling: Google Calendar (with working hours respected)
  • 🎥 Video: Google Meet, Zoom
  • 📊 Project Management: Linear, GitHub Issues

  • Ignoring red flags or risk indicators
  • Using client data without consent

Toxic Behaviors

  • Exclusionary behavior (everyone belongs)
  • Burnout glorification (sustainable pace > heroics)

Poor Communication

  • Withholding critical information
  • Passive-aggressive messaging
  • Meeting no-shows without notice
